Cannot send proper password to ldap

Hi there,

I am trying to transfer what would normally be in the /etc/passwd file to an
ldap server.

The ldap server is set up and it has all the neccessary attributes one would
expect for
authentication to take place.

The problem is that when I try and authenticate my packet trace is showing that
I am
sending:

 \b\n\r\177INCORRECT

as my password. However if I create the user on the system itself and I try and
authenticate
my packet trace is showing that I am sending the correct password to the LDAP
server.

Would anyone have any inclination what the cause of this may be. I am running
on RHEL 4 Update 2.

This problem is almost certainly coming from the work station side and I qm
quite confident that
LDAP is set up correctly.

Many thanks,
