Can't read dual layer discsHave been using K3B successfully for quite some time but have tried something new which doesn't seem to work.
Using openSuSE 10.2 and now installed DeVeDe to burn two different types of discs from some .avi files. 1. One .avi file is prepared via DeVeDe, then burned as a video CD which plays nicely in standalone DVD player. 2. Multiple .avi files are prepared as an .iso file via DeVeDe, and burned to an 8.5Gb DVD+R DL as a video DVD. The burner is a decent Sony burner, capable for Dual Layer. I use Verbatim discs. And am ensuring to select the correct disc size in K3B and to hopefully aid in making sure the disc burn was good, I set the speed down to 2.5x. The burning process seems to be completed perfectly, no errors and the disc ejects. At that point it will not mount. It is not readable in the burner, in a standalone DVD player or any other manner. Everything reports "no disc loaded". Any ideas what I can be doing wrong? JeepNut In a world without walls or fences, who needs Windows or Gates? You haven't inadvertently checked "create image only" in the writing tab of the burn dialog, perhaps? -- Regards _ / ) "The blindingly obvious is / _)rad never immediately apparent" Loaded like a freight train flyin' like an aeroplane Nightrain - Guns 'N' Roses ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by the 2008 JavaOne(SM) Conference Register now and save $200. Not necessarily; Drag a couple of things to a DVD project, then select Burn, and check all the options in all the tabs. If "create image only" is checked, you know where the mistake lies. If not, then yes, you'll probably have to try another burn. > I'm hoping for another suggestion before I make another $2.50 >coaster... Look for cheaper disks? :-) Seriously, IKWYM. I'd be reluctant, too. TBH, I don't really follow the technology closely enough to be sure, but I /think/ domestic players have always been capable of reading dual layer disks. However, it's only recently that the writing technology has become cheap enough for the "average Joe". > media? Doesn't that I've not noticed both aspect ratios on one disk. > much data require a dual-layer disc? In any case the disc I burned Depends on how it's achieved; One could be a simple crop of the other, which could be done in software, and not need a second data stream. > I'll post back those results. It's always good to find out what the problem was. Too often I see a post on lists saying "Got a problem with XYZ", then comes a follow up "Never mind, got it sorted" but they don't say what the issue was. No help to anyone else. :-( > If anyone has any new ideas....
