Bug#492051: Lenny Beta 2 installer failurePackage: installation-reportsBoot method: CD netinstImage version: lenny
beta2 netinstDate: 2008/07/23Machine: Desktop Processor:Core 2 Duo 6700 Memory:4Gb DDR3 800 Partitions: Didn't get that far Output of lspci -knn (or lspci -nn): didn't get that far Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot: [O] Detect network card: [E] Configure network: [ ] Detect CD: [E] Load installer modules: [ ] Detect hard drives: [ ] Partition hard drives: [ ] Install base system: [ ] Clock/timezone setup: [ ] User/password setup: [ ] Install tasks: [ ] Install boot loader: [ ] Overall install: [E] Comments/Problems: I am trying to reinstall an existing Debian system. The previous run of dselect broke it, to the extent that the kernel could not find /sbin/init and none of the previous kernels worked either. The system was originally installed using a netinst CDROM. Despite the fact that my system is using what is now a relatively well known Intel motherboard, the netinst could not find CDROM drivers. The CDROM is a standardr IDE CDROM, designed by Toshiba/Samsung, model SH-C522. The motherboard is an Intel 955 chipset board, model type D955XBKLKR. The installer was also unable to find network drivers for this board. I have previously been able to install to this combination of board and CDROM using netinst, so this fault represents a regression. I have also found it impossible to use netinst on an Intel DX38 with a Core Duo 6850, and ended up having to install Ubuntu instead in that case. I have every expectation of having to go for an Ubuntu installation again this time, which I don't really want to do as it then causes trouble later when I try to install qmail. Could you please try with a daily built image? You will be able to download them from the links on: http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ Please use the "Save debug logs" menu option if you still encounter problem, as with the present information you gave us, it's pretty hard to figure out what is the problem.
