Package: debian-policy
Version: 3.7.3.0
Severity: wishlist

Hello.

The "Package maintainer scripts and installation procedure" chapter of the Debian policy describes in details the process of packages' scripts, but in a non-formal way, which makes it difficult to understand.

I think that adding figures with flowcharts would be great.

Reuse of http://women.debian.org/wiki/English/MaintainerScripts should help a great deal, I suppose.

Hope this will happen.

Best regards,

I agree.

However I think these flowcharts are at a rather higher level than is
ideal because they fail to deal with a few corner cases.  The one I
provided in the triggers specification is more in the right style I
think.

What format would the policy maintainers prefer ?

Ian.

Personally, it makes little difference to me as long as it can be edited
by reasonable free software packages, is preferrably a standardized
format, and can be rendered into PNG files for distributing with the
package and on the web.

I think diagrams would be an excellent idea.

OK, I'll get out xfig, which is my personal least un-favourite :-).
