Yes, this is a self-made snapshot for the freebsd port. Until the final
1.6.0 version will be released I create these snapshots more or less
periodical. I was forced to upgrade the freebsd port to the 1.6 branch
because it fixed various problems that have occurred here.

There's no officially released 1.6 yet, it's on our near future todo list.

The plan is to release 1.6 ASAP (the next few weeks) and then switch to
a so called stable trunk policy, so that trunk is always usuable und
developement happens on branches. We still try to put official releases
out, but you know our track record :)

With the stable trunk policy, one can at least be somehow sure, that the
trunk is not getting the latest untested whizz and breaks totally your
app :)

The further near term plan (after 1.6 is released) is to improve some of
the not-so-good usability issues in Flux CMS, there's a long list of
little issues.

And then we try to decide what's Flux 2.0 will gonna be like, we haven't
decided yet, but some ideas are floating around

is the site-specific code, while
https://svn.liip.ch/repos/public/fluxcms
is the cms specific code. The latter is automatically included (with
svn:externals) from the demo. This allows to seperate cms-code from your
local installation code (like themes, specific plugins, etc)

try bx:relink in your collection properties, that should work, but it
maybe also needs adjustements to the xslt, if it doesn't have something
like that seen here

Hi all,

Been a while since I've been deep into the workings of bitflux... is
there a convenient way of changing an existing collection to an external
redirect - i.e., forward a top-level menu item to an external site?

I've found an external aggregator service (soup.io) that seems to work
much more reliably than the built-in aggregator.

Hello,

I have a problem when I open the website the first time, the main page
wasn't found, but after the tmp/cache was built, it is working. Where is
the Problem and how to solve?

I found page not found problems at the forum by searching, but not this
kind of.

In Detail:
I installed freeflux 1_5 on localhost. That is working fine.
Now I tried to install it on my webhosting account. I got errors because
of the username (it's with an "-") and an existing database. So I have
done the manual installation.
I got it almost done, but with the problem above.

When I open the url of the website (http://php5.crow-ten.ch/fluxcms)
then I can see the website without the middle part (can see top menue,
left col and right col, but not the linked home part in the middle).
The error is:
Page Not Found
http://php5.crow-ten.ch/fluxcms/services/webs/php5.crow-ten.ch/htdocs/fluxcms
was not found.

It seems that it puts the ProjectDir and the WebDir together.

After I clicked on the link to home, I see the whole page (cache is
set), but only for the used browser on the used computer.
On another computer the same procedure and effect again.

I get the same problem with the default theme and site.

You can use the sitemap plugin instead of the navitree one.
Here are the steps :

in /inc/bx/plugins/, you should have a file called sitemap.php (http://svn.bitflux.ch/repos/public/fluxcms/trunk/inc/bx/plugins/sitemap.php)

in /.configxml

and then later you can use the variable to build your menu. here is an for example from one of my sites :

Dear List.
I have a problem with the 3rd level navigation. Under http://crow-ten.freeflux.net/angebote/

you can try to activate GD instead of imagemagick. just set the value
<useGD>true</useGD> in the file /conf/config.xml of your flux-cms
installation.
the gallery-plugin works well for me with GD.

Long time ;)

I moved a FluxCMS site to Dreamhost.com and the thumbnails in the gallery
stopped working... and this is what happends when I open a straight URL to
one of them:
http://strengsong.com/dynimages/100/files/_galleries/bilder/gitarren.jpg
(URL exposes PHP code)

From my chat yesterday with gassi at #liip it seems to be a php-cgi problem.
Any ideas on what to do about this? Running mod_php5 at Dreamhost is not an
option.

That would be nice to handle the pictures within a blogpost more
comfortable. Maybe allow some series in combination with the gallery.
I think Yves did something like that for that nautilus-thing :) Rafi
is currently working on a Light-Box-Thingy-based on YUI for the gallery.

There is a Map-Plugin for Geodata in Moblogs in the trunk, but i don't
think its very microformatenhanced.

Here is my idea for the bitflux cms. I would love to have a simple shop module with a simple basket and checkout.
I think Silvan from bitflux ZH has done something like this once but I never saw it and I don't know if hi could finish it.
And if you do this I could open you a test account on the clickandbuy payment system to test the checkout ;-)

Acctually inserting picture in a blog post and resize them is in my point of
view still ways to complicated. An Improvment there would make my blog more
pictures ;-) But I'm not sure if you're searching more for a more seperated
work.
Acctually Flux can more then I need, so no new ideas from me.
Ohh well, maybe a nice and easy to use microformat support for the blog
(places and events) would be cool!

Is this flux-cms thing still evolving? I think I have seen no updates for a while now.
My blog is powered by flux cms and I would love to get some new features.
Also something has to be done with the templates available for customizing the designs, so few are available.

Thanks a lot for the effort. I'm for bundling all 4 themes for the time
being, so that it doesn't do potential bad things, if you're upgrading
your cms. And making one of the new themes the default is certainly also
a sensible thing to do.

Why did you propose the 2 col as new default? We had the 3-col as
default until now.

Hi list,

Monorom (intensivstation.ch) revamped both, the 2-cols and
3-cols themes. The new versions (2-cols-2008, 3-cols-2008)
fix issues regarding validity, for example in the topnavigation and the
left-navigation, and cleanup several other small things.
Moreover, they both come with new color schemes and the 2-cols-2008
includes an additional css.

The question is now whether we should replace the current
2-/3-cols themes with the new ones and make 2-cols-2008 the
default theme for a fresh Flux-CMS installation.
The old versions could still be kept in the themes folder, or swapped
out to the themes repository on intensivstation.ch

That's easy: log into /admin, open /lang/master_de.xml and change

Define the "read more" option

Hi all

If I split my post(s) into two parts (by making "an extended post"), flux cms automatically ads the read more link. The link itself is nice, but not the labelling (at least in german, there it's called "lese ganzen beitrag" and that seems not to be real german to me...) ;-)

How can I change the linked text? An how can I do this on freeflux.net?

FormBuilder für FluxCMS

Hello everyone,

ich wollt nur kurz ein Mail in die Runde schicken, da ich ja nun an dem
FormularBuilder für das FluxCMS arbeite.

Hier mein grobes Konzept, das natürlich für jedwede Vorschläge und
Kritik offen ist:

- Prinzipiell wollte ich mich an Jotform orientieren:

- allerdings wird es wohl einige Tools weniger geben. Ziel ist es jetzt
erst mal, Basiselemente umzusetzen, wie sie in etwa in der Toolbox zu
sehen sind.

- ausserdem möchte ich die Properties nicht in einer Box da an der Seite
haben, sondern direkt unter dem jeweiligen Element ausklappen, wenn das
Element ausgewählt wird.

- am Ende soll es dann eine Möglichkeit geben, das ganze dann zu
exportieren und entsprechend einzubinden. bzw. es sollte dann einfach
den entsprechenden DOM Baum produzieren der dann entsprechend eingefügt
werden kann.

Hat jemand dafür noch ne Idee oder möchte irgenwas anbringen, was ich
unbedingt beachten sollte?

Well, indeed database entities (or "Dbforms2") do live in a different
universe than the collections.Connecting them to the permission system
through a predefined collection URI makes sense to me. Problems might
arise later when you might want to try defining permissions for specific
forms/entities, but let's talk later about later, right? :)

As said, I don't think this is a huge problem. If the collections have a
display-name you'll use that anyway, so if there's a thing called "DB
Forms" to which you can assign permissions all's fine, no?

I can't currently grasp the problem you're having.. is this a standard
case you name above?

but something keeps bothering me. it's best explaind with dbforms and
permissions. when writing permissions concerning dbforms to the DB,
the "permission matrix plugin" sets the collection path of the
permission triplet [1] to /dbforms2/, as follows:

permission is the asked upon this path, e.g.

the problem with that is obvious: you can not edit this permissions
based on the collection path. but the UI will be based on the
collection path...

if you take the blog example, you have admin_dbforms2-back-
blogcomments that is responsible to allow blog comments... if i want
this permission to be different on two blogs, the permission plugin
will only store the "last edited permission"... i.e. for both blogs,
the identifying permission triplet is

* /dbforms2/
* group_id
* admin_dbforms2-back-blogcomments

which is not unique.

i have no clue on how to attempt on solving this.

i think for now, permissions behave as the logical OR. if any group
you belong to is granted privilege, you too are granted privilege.
and this makes sense to me.

Hi

Just a little note before I (finally) leave :)

I basically agree with Hannes, I just wouldn't spent too much time on
the GUI part :)

As we will have some discussions next January where Flux should head to
(and where it should be improved) and one of those things is a more
coherent GUI, I wouldn't try to do fancy stuff there now. Later, no
problem :)

For the rest, I have nothing to add to hannes. And yes, it's better to
concentrate on the "normal" plugins like collection and xhtml/static
pages, than on the blog plugin and all those. They are the "pünktchen
auf dem i"

Having multiple blogs inside one Flux CMS instance is a rather..
obscure/undocumented feature (setting a blogid and then ..), so if you
want to deal with the "which blog" issue then you might want to look
into that. I'd say taking out the hardcoded collection path is a good
idea.

permission matrix plugin

hi all,

i have picked up the fluxcms "permission matrix plugin" [1] and have
been working on it for several days now. it took me some time to get
to know the flux cms internals better first well enough to understand
it ;) and then i didn't need to change much, for it's UI to do what
seems good to me.

my intention in writing here is to inform on what exists and to see
what the community thinks about. i also would like to point out one
or two problems i encountered when testing the "permission matrix
plugin" on the example of the blog plugin and find out if such
problems will be exceptional rather than usual.

the philosophy behind the "permission matrix plugin" is to grant
permissions for each plugin based on the array() that the plugin's
getPermissionList() returns. in the case of the blog plugin, this
would be [2]:

array(
"blog-back-post",
"blog-back-options",
"blog-back-files",
"blog-back-gallery",
"blog-back-blogroll",
"blog-back-categories",
"blog-back-private",
"admin_dbforms2-back-blogcomments"
)

notice the syntax, consisting of dash-separated triplets [3]:

[plugin] - [level] - [permission type]

permissions are set relatively to a collection path and can be
inherited from a parent collection. say we have the following
collection layout:

home
|- blogs
| |- news (blog plugin)
| |- internal news (blog plugin)
|
|- gallery (gallery plugin)

then the /home permission UI would give you the possibility to edit
blog and gallery permissions [4] for each user group (user groups are
introduced by the permission matrix plugin). if not stated
differently, all the child plugins shold inherit from these rights.
it is now possible to overwrite the permissions for /blog/internal/
and not grant any rights to the special "Anonymous" group.

basically, the permission itself is refereed by a triplet consisting of

* collection path
(e.g. '/blogs/internal_news/')
* group id
(e.g. Anonymous)
* permission
(eg. admin_dbforms2-back-blogcomments)

this also kind of reflects the permission management as i would like
to see it. if you managed to read till here, i would love to hear
what you think about this way of setting permissions.

at this point i would like to draw your attention to problems that
can occur when using the "permission matrix plugin" on the example of
the blog plugin. have a look at the first lines of the blog's
handlePOST() function [5].

on line 50 the following function is called:

$perm->isAllowed('/blog/',array('blog-back-'.$sub));
where
$sub = "blog"

this interferes in two ways with the way the "permission matrix
plugin" looks at the word:

the first problem is, that the "blog-back-blog" permission does not
exist (c.f. [2], i guess "blog-back-post" could be the one we are
looking for here). i guess such little problems will arise once in a
while, but shouldn't be to difficult to fix.

the second problem might be more complicated to solve, and it might
also be the reason why the "permission matrix plugin" paradigm isn't
a good one. the collection path is hardcoded to '/blog/'. i haven't
looked at the blog plugin internals, nor have i compared this with
the behavior of other plugins... but the "permission matrix plugin"
would expect a collection path here, in order to know which blog is
referenced.

so here are the questions that burn on my tongue:
is a permission model, based on the path / user group / permission
triplet realistic in the flux cms?
will there be many problems like the once i cited?
are there even issues i didn't consider yet?
what do you think about it?
