At Home WIth My BoatDave, Ed, Rob, & List,
After six days of driving approximately 500 miles a day, I am safely home with my Rhodes. I left the Plant on Wednesday and arrived home on Monday 12th at 2:30 pm. This might be stale news to you, but I got a lot of "thumbs up" along the way. It appears as though everybody loves my boat. I am not sure I can handle all this attention, and people lining up for a sail. Anyway, thanks to all of you who helped me in the process of acquiring the Rhodes 22. Now that I will be sailing the Rhodes for the first time, please expect a different set of questions. Boat and trailer have been registered in WA. I am working on mooring lines, anchor rode, Fenders and motor, safety package, etc., before my maiden launch. I will let you know how it goes. 'bout time!Caesar:
I was wondering if I had to locate St. Bernard's... One comment seldom found is a safety/security cable for your motor. Even if you leave boat at house with motor on have security cable attached to it and boat. Over the years motor mounts have broken, so it would be possible to loose a motor in deep water. Contratulations on completed journey... Did you go up I-77 in North Carolina - Virginia. How about Donner pass? Ed K Greenville, SC, USA attachment: JBsailboat.gif JBsailboat.gif |

Re: 'bout time!Caesar,
Regarding the outboard lock, don't get the one that locks over the motor clamps. It will hit the lift when raising the motor. If you're in a relatively secure slip, I wouldn't even bother with a lock. Most locks don't hold up well to the weather corrosion. Your motor may be more likely to be stolen if you go bow first into your slip rather than backing in. Apparently thieves will steal it by sea instead of land. I tie a sturdy line from the motor to the port stern eye, just in case the sucker falls off. As for a 20" shaft, my 25" drags in the water a little when I'm on a starboard tack. A 20" is probably long enough. Stan just recylced a friend's boat, and her 9.9 Yamaha longshaft now tilts when it's fully raised. Might want to give him a call to see if yours does the same thing. Good luck! Lee 1986 Rhodes22 At Ease Kent Island, MD

Re: At Home WIth My BoatGreat news, Casar. And if the weather in your neighborhood is
anything like ours, your timing is perfect. Feel free to call if you would like to chat about outfitting with fenders, etc. I'll check the spec on my motor tomorrow - finally a sunny weekend to wash, wax and get on the water.
