By default the language is selected automatically by the browser's preferred language configuration. > Whenever i select french. The > extension changes to *.fr. But The CMS Still Shows all The labels and other > things in English Only. It's a little bit complicated :-) : content-center: --------------- There are some french resource bundles, but they are incomplete and out of date. So, if your browser is configured for french as the preferred language you will get some french labels but a lot of them in english. If you have a devel environment installed and e.g. netbeans, you can easily add the necessary translations. If you don't have a devel environment, I could send you the files in the appropriate directory tree so you can easily make the translation - e.g using a translation helper program, see the Netbeans translated files project. In any case you can activating (and test) it by copying the files into the corresponding directories in ~/webapps/WEB-INF/lib tree without recompiling. It would be great if you could send the french files back to me so I can add them to the repository and the next release. content-items: ------------- Content items support the concept of language bundle. You can add translations for each content item you may have created (tab language, add language). Problem: the current version of navigation does display all language versions of an item for a given category. I'm not shure if portal pages work. Categories / Terms: ------------------ Currently they don't support multi-language sites. If you operate a french only site, you should use french labels for categories and they will be displayed to the public. We have prepared an extension for categories which allows language bundles for categories, too. That means, you prepare a category in a default language and then add additional translations / languages for each category. The appropriate language is automatically selected by browser's language preference. This extension is not included in the 1.0.4 release. It is currently in our private development trunk (see http://ccm.barkhof.uni-bremen.de). If you would like to use it, I could provide you with the rpms (which are a private 1.0.5 (alpha) release, but we use it for our production web sites) or I could grant you read-access to our repository. The extension is not fully tested yet. Public viewable site: -------------------- The current APLAWS standard theme is plain English without any "Foreign Country" support (from the British view :-) ). The fall back CCM theme is language aware, but it is quite outdated and doesn't work well with the newer code additions. To use it for a french only site you have to modify the theme. As an alternative you may use "Mandalay", a new multi-purpose standard theme we are developing on which is highly configurable and multi-language aware. But currently is does not support all modules, just the ones we are using, and there are some minor problems with integrating of 2 admin pages. We are working on it to make it a new APLAWS / CCM standard theme. If you are interested we could send you a zip. Documentation is not finished yet, but there is a lot of Doku in the config files. Please: could you tell us what site you are using APLAWS for? So when i select d same..it remains to show as English but The URL > gets changed from *.en to *.fr. OK. I suppose you go into the content-center, select an content item (e.g. article) to work on. Then there is a tab "languages" beside authoring. Within this tab you select / specify the language assignment of the content item you are working on. That does not affect the language of the labels inside content-center. It is just an assignment for the content item you are working on. You tell the system: this is a content item in french language. It is the concept of language bundle. You have an content item, identified by an internal id and dealing with a special message (e.g. the welcome page). You can create various language versions of that message. All the language versions carry the same internal id. If a user specifies the content item with that id and his/her browser specifies a preferred language, CCM tries to find that language version of the item and delivers it. > Basically we have used cms to develop a web > portal for public sector just as camden web page. I'll prepare a zip with all the rpms and send you an URL for download. I hope I can do it tomorrow.
