The phenomenon has not only spread across the country, but also infected bikers.

I'm not sure how cellphone had anything to do with it.  The article
makes it seem like the guy pulled off before answering the phone
(although I wouldn't put it past him to have tried to answer while
riding).  What's not clear is if "in the ditch" is being used in its
common meaning of "wrecked".

This does look like an example of stupidity triumphing, though.  It
sounds like the fool would have been free and clear if he'd just tried
to hide.

With bluetooth being as popular as it is, you never know how many people are riding around talking on their phones. Hell, I once saw a guy traveling west bound on Randolph Road (near MD 97 - Ga Ave) talking on his cell phone at a traffic light. He put them on hold to get the bike going, and put the phone back to his ear and kept going with his conversation...it was unreal. Obviously not the first time he'd executed this maneuver.

This guy who got caught is just a complete moron.  Too bad he didn't get busted in Virginia. I believe they'd give him the chair for such an offense?

actually, I believe first offense in  Va. includes disembowelment with their
entrails draped over a speed limit sign as a warning to others, THEN
whatever is left is merely given lethal injection with little to no
fanfare..

We don't use the chair...we're a kinder, gentler Virginia.  ;-)
