Amarok not finding ipod classic

Hi,

I have an 80Gb iPod classic that I plug into to my Ubuntu 8.04 machine
running KDE 4.1.  However, when I start amarok (ipod is plugged in and
mounted), the iPod is not detected.  Nor can I find any way to tell
Amarok about it.  The plasma config in the middle of amarok has a "media
devices" entry in the list that pops up, but when I click it nothing
happens.  Nor is the "media devices" selection available in the
"configure amarok" dialog under the "settings" menu.

Is there some piece that is missing from my amarok install?  How can I
get amarok to play my iPod?

libgpod3 is installed.  There is lots of debugging output coming out of
amarok when i run it in the terminal, is there anything in the debug
that would be useful to look for?

Any pointers are appreciated,

Thanks,
Cam

Ipod Classics require special attention before first use:

Hi,

That is all in place and Ubuntu installs libgpod 0.6.0, but still no
luck.  If it helps at all, Rhythmbox is able to play from the iPod and
it uses libgpod.  Is it all supposed to be automatic?  What is the
purpose of the plasma settings list in the middle of the Amarok window?

Cam,

Make sure that HAL is detecting it correctly.  Amarok relies on HAL to
detect your device, at which point it should work automatically.

With your iPod plugged in, look at the output of "lshal -lt" and make
sure it's showing up.

Yup, it's there.  The ipod shows up in 'lshal' after plugging it in.
Plus my ipod displays the "Connected" screen.  Are there any others
tests I can try?
