Dear OSP colleagues

Thanks for all the good feedback for my post on allowing instructors to attach artifacts to matrix cells. I heard from Maggie Lynch, Nancy O'Laughlin, Sean Keesler, Jim Doherty, John Gosney, Lynn Ward, and Kara Stiles. Most people suggested using the feedback form in the matrix -- the instructor would attach the artifact (in this case a video of the TA's microteaching) to the feedback form in the cell and the student could access it from there. This solution will definitely work but it is not the most direct. Another suggestion was to somehow use the new feature allowing instructors to associate assignment submissions with a matrix cell (but this still poses the problem of how the student ssubmitting the assingment would attach a file that is in the teacher's possession).

The most straightforward and innovative solution is to use the drop box tool (which may or may not be a default tool in portfolio sites) to allow the teacher to deliver the file to the student (in this case TA). The student can then access the file through the drop box folder in Resources and associate it with the matrix cell (which in this case calls for evidence of and reflection on microteaching).

Thanks to everyone who helped solve this problem for an rSmart client!

Janice

Subject: Allowing instructors to attach artifacts to student matrix cells

Has anyone found a way to allow instructors to attach uploaded files to student matrix cells? rSmart has a customer with instructors wanting to regularly post video files of student micro-teaching to the student matrix cells. We have strongly advised against using the superuser tool for this purpose (due to security concerns) and have brainstormed two possible ways to customize the matrix to meet this need. We know that it is a requirment in K-12 portfolios for instructors to be able to add artifacts to student portfolios. Has anyone else found a way to do this with OSP?
