Re: Airships in operation and productionA complete overview does not exist anywhere right now. But if time
permits, Airshipworld might have something in the queue to solve this problem. Re: Airships in operation and productionI'm not entirely sure how acurate or up-to-date this list is (it's listed under NEWS 2007) but the blimp-n2a.com website has a list of 41 airships, their registartion number, model number, manufacturer and in the case of advertising blimps, the airships sponsor. Even if it's not a complete list it would give you somewhere to start looking. the past, present and future of airships : blimpship.com |

Re: Airships in operation and productionResults of my inquiry from somebody (Arnold W L Nayler - Editor Emeritus of Airship - the Airship Association journal) who keeps up to date on this follows:
My last check in March 2008 showed number of manned airships in operation as follows: Zeppelin NT-07 - 2 - Germany, Japan Goodyear - 3 - USA Skyships - 3 - UK, Trinidad, USA (added by CL - originally produced by Airship Industries - now still in service through AMS and Skycruise) ABC Lightships (all sizes) 7 - USA, Japan WWAeros - 1 - USA RosAeroSystems - 4 - Russia Volaris - 1 - France Total 21 airships, but a few listed above are not in service - i.e. SK 600 in UK Hope the above satisfies. Please note that, for serious airship enthusiasts, the Airship Association is the most active group world-wide for the promotion of airships. One can only hope to supplement and support their work here. Cheers, Charles AlFi <fialho@...> wrote:

Re: Airships in operation and productionThese lists don't include the Wüllenkemper airship(s).
I take it that the airship arm of WDL is now permanantly WFU. Is this correct? |

Re: Airships in operation and productionI don't know if you can clear this up for me, having had a look at the Voliris website there seems to be two different registrations on the images of the Voliris craft : F-03VS and F-WAAN. WAAN appears on the debut pictures from 2002/3 whilst 03VS appears in later (2005 onwards) pictures. Any idea if this is the same airship or what happened to the first one? the past, present and future of airships : blimpship.com |

Re: Airships in operation and productionSince there's a conversation about currently operational airships around the world,it would be interesting I think to spread a little information about their current economic and financial characteristics, which eventually determine wether or not the will keep flying. For example, how much does a Zeppelin NT costs to be built, how much does it cost to be run, what are the specific characteristic of the markets it operates in (big or limited, adressed mainly to tourists or/and locals, where between do their incomes range about,is airships' current demand limited by lack of infomation by their potential consumers or by their inherent operational limitations and thus the services they can provide, is there a potentially substantial demand for their current uses or is it just a limited and marginal one e.t.c).
If we can start filling these info gaps we maybe be able to identify airships' present potential uses and spread the word so that relative interest may arise.Potential design and engineering proposals about airships may enrich our visions and ambitions about their future use, which nevertheless will step on their present uses and applications.
