Airship conceptHi guys.
i have recently done a diploma project concerning airships, perhaps you will find it interesting Robin if you read those posts i would be glad if you could check it out.. here are the links http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRTxD_WGSEM http://www.coroflot.com/public/individual_file.asp?specialty=4&sort_by=1&c=1&portfolio_id=571289&individual_id=107426 |

Re: Airship conceptVery nice design, but would it work? It looks huge for a 25 passenger capacity

Re: Airship conceptThis is a hybrid airship design, meaning the ship relies on 2/3 aerostatic lift (heluim) and 1/3 dynamic lift supplied by the wings.Still, it is just a concept which I tried to design as close to reality as possible It was developed in collaboration with a mechanical engineer to "keep me on the ground", and I did stick to basic calculations of gas volume or lift. Of course, we will not know if it really flies until we try.. :-) |

Re: Airship conceptPlease do, even if it's just a model - I'd love to see something like that actually flying and the thought that there are still people out there willing to design and build airships is great. I've read a lot about the future of airships and there seem to be a lot of projects that never quite made it so I wish you the best and hope that you have some success with this. the past, present and future of airships : blimpship.com |

Re: Airship conceptIs there a special reason why you choose a vertical design for the gas volume?
Looks like it would have a lot of contact surface for strong winds. Did you made calculations how big a working model should be. I assume it must be pretty big... about 4 meters in length? Nevertheless, I like the innovative design and the hybrid idea, and really would like to see it flying. Re: Airship conceptIt would seem that your project is making waves, amongst the 'greens' at least.
I've found reference to it on ecofriend.org and groovygreen.com where they both seem to be pleased that someone is designing environmentally friendly aircraft, but worry that such projects ever get made. There is another mention (all three of these are linked) on bornrich.org , which appears to be a site for expensive gadgets. Well done Gosha, now go and build it! the past, present and future of airships : blimpship.com |

Re: Airship conceptVery impressive. Keep up the good work. Would you consider open sourcing your design to encourage model builders to attempt a proof of concept ? I'd like to see someone from the German Airship regatta build a working model. I'm having trouble with your second link. Please advise.

Re: Airship conceptThanks,
it is always nice to see interest in your own work. especially one i have invested so much time and "thought power" to develop. I really hope it will make a difference.. As far as building it is concerned, i am quite restricted by a.. err.. limited budget and lack of engineering knowledge. However, i will be glad to cooperate with any individual or group that finds interest in the AirShipOne.
