Air filtration

Hi all,

I had to do away with my OEM, in the side-box air filter because my
Dell'Orto carb runs too rich for it.  I am in the range without it
that I can tune the carb, before I couldn't lean it out enough.  Have
read that K & N air filters may allow through too much dust, et.  We
don't really have much of a dust problem here, at least not in recent
years with so much rain, but I'm thinking about making a gauze holder
for the side case and just putting several layers of old T-shirt
cotton across a four inch diameter cap, over the air intake, kept
right in the side box.  And advice?  I figure maybe I can do some
testing to get the right amount of filtration by doing plug checks.  I
cn easily wash my T-shirt filter when the time comes.  I think I could
get by running it without (I am now) but maybe a little dust
protection might be good.

Anyone tried something like this>
