I'd also like to have a discussion on when we're going to have the board election.  Bill told me in private conversation that the contractors may be within days of enabling people to vote with their OpenIDs, which was the gating factor that delayed the election when we talked about it several months ago.  I'd put this before the scope discussion in the agenda order.

                                Thanks,
                                -- Mike

1. Update on ED recruiting (I was on vacation so I might have missed
what our plan is here)
2. Update on core messaging and discussion of next steps. It appears
some decisions need to be made, or have they been made while I was
gone, in which case I'd appreciate a pointer to them.
3. Trademark update. It seems the US and EU marks have been assigned
to the foundation. (right?) What about the others?

I'd also like to know when, if ever, board members will see BS, P&L,
CF, budget, pipeline, etc. as documents in advance to the meeting ;-)

Thanks,

Johannes.

As of later this afternoon,  the membership signup and payment system is "in hand."  It is being tested, checked, etc. now by me.  The elections / voting elements should be ready to test soon barring any major difficult moments.

Want to talk about some work I've been involved in around dealing with
things like IPR for other communities and how it might be beneficial
to the OpenID community.

Towards that end it might be very helpful to have an update as to the current Membership list/count.

Thanks,

Hi Dick,

I know perfectly well how members vote within OIDF.

But as I do not know the list of the Members of OIDF—as that list is not accessible to the public—I cannot tell you if certain members have paid dues twice, but I would be surprised if they had.

As I have already explained, many businesses in Europe and in Asia will never wish to be (only/directly) members of an US Foundation. This is simply a reality of the market and a cultural fact.

These 22 members (I am hoping for a larger number, 80 to 100 in 2009) are to this day authorized to vote with OIDE. We can hope that in the near future this would have for them a greater significance than today, in particular after my recent interviews with the Presidency (France since this week http://www.ue2008.fr/PFUE/lang/en/accueil) of the European Community which seem promising. The EU Government would help OpenID, both by initiating a European normalization process, and by participating in the writing of the technical specifications.

As I have offered several times to the Board, it would be quite possible to set in place something large and quite good at the global level, with a system involving controlled sharing (this is what we are already doing in Europe with the National Chapters), a system within which each Chapter would bring in funding for the Foundation (meaning OIDF this time). In this way, a French company which would become Member of OpenID France, or an Argentinean business becoming a Member of OpenID Argentina (I use this example since the OpenID Foundation Argentina is in the process of being incorporated in Buenos Aires) would automatically also become a Member of OIDF.

Of course a legal and financial organization should be put in place beforehand.

Once again, all these topics are mentioned in the OpenID’09 program I am soon to present to the Board and the Community.

I remain, until then, at your disposal

-Snorri

Hi Snorri

I was confused on why you responded as the topic was around how many people would be able to vote in an election.

As for members of other organizations being able to vote in OIDF elections, the board's current position is only members of OIDF can vote. Members of local chapters get whatever benefits those chapters provide them.

While it is great that EU Government is positive about OpenID, it is unclear what European normalization process needs to be done, or how the government would productively contribute to writing of technical specifications. Perhaps those will be explained in your OpenID'09 program?
