AC Mfg. & AC Co - more research...........There are 2 different companies, at least
for tax or legal purposes in Massachusetts by 1898:
Also other data below:
JAN 19, 1898 ![]() Massachusetts Public Documents in 1896 say: "American Camera Manufacturing Company, The, Northborough. Organization certified June 16, 1896. Pub. Stat., c. 106." NY Public Documents say:
![]() Wilson's Photographic Magazine
1897:
"SENSITIZED
NEGATIVE FILMS. T. H. Blair, Northampton, Mass., and S. E. Waterman, Paw-
tucket, R. I., assignors to the American Camera Co., of
Northborough, Mass. No. 588,790. A method of making a flexible support for a
film of gelatino-bromide emulsion and coating the same in one continuous
operation."

RE: AC Mfg. & AC Co - more research...........Dan, yes, we are
now aware that there were at least two, and possibly three or more
companies. But we are no better off.
The trick is
to put them into chronological context with names or ownership, legal
associations (if any, with each other), dates, locations, and
products.
For example,
knowing that there were 10 Zahorcak's in my family, only counting citizens
of this country, 9 of them taxpayers, scattered about NJ,
PA, OR and Japan between the years 2001 and 2008 - really doesn't tell much of the
story. And the other 47 known, but unrelated Zahorcak's don't
help the matter if you don't know who's in and who's
out.
Without a timeline,
and the business version of a family tree with all of the "and they begat . . ."
none of us knows anything more now than we started. We're still
floundering in sea of unconnected facts.

neighborhood from the school bus."

RE: AC Mfg. & AC Co - et alFred,
You know what I
find particularly irksome about this "American Camera"
nonsense?
One of these damned
companies - doesn't matter which - existed before the other one, or
other ones.
Which bright-ass
genius thought it would be a good idea to use essentially the same damned name
when they started the other company?
Then again, there
were the Rochester permutations ad infinitum.
And let's see,
other possibilities would be:
1.
Un-American Camera Co. &/or Un-American Camera Manufacturing
Co.
2. American
Optimal Company (hey, that's not bad . . . and no one used
it?)
3.
John Lock & Co. - a wholly owned
subsidiary of John Lock, Stock & Barrel assigned to American
Optimal.
4.
Blare Camera Company
5.
Eastmon Coat-Rack
6.
Ser-oh-no!
7.
Senokot Camera Manufacturing
8. E &
HT Antimony
9. Slomill
Manufacturing (this one requires a bit more research)
10. Gundlach Corona -
perhaps in competition with Gundlach Dos
Equis
11. Hmmm . . .
and maybe there really was a Harrifon, or a Voigtlander & John, or a
Parlor lens company.
I'm sure I missed
many other possibilities.
So? where is
Eaton during all this? Has he stood on a chair and sung the W&B theme
song yet?
