A thought before dying

So little time you've given me
to work out all the knots.
bind your forbidding hand to mine...
a haggard grip you've got.

you came upon so suddenly
there is no time to pause,
to consider the important things,
the pain that this will cause.

You leave me with a heavy heart.
My boys, not yet grown.
I cannot bear to leave this plane
I must tend the seeds I've sown.

So, can't I have a bit more time?
Release your deathly grip.
Allow me just a little while
before I take this trip.

It's not that I'm afraid to die.
It's for my boys I mourn.
It's from my grip, my very hip,
my babies will be torn.

My brooding pleas have gone unheard.
your pull on me is strong.
I wish to make one last request
before my will is gone.

Let me tell my sweet, sweet boys
I love them more than ever,
as long as they remember me
I'll be with them forever.

I'm so glad you liked this poem.  Those are my two favorite stanzas as well.    I nearly bit it after my second was born.  There was a three day period that my doctors didn't know if I was going to make it and I remember thinking "what will become of my boys".  Not that this thought is unusual because I'm sure it is common for most parents to be more concerned for their children than their own lives.  Anyhow, all is well, but I still think about it from time to time.  Thank you for the Ovation...that made my evening
