A Life Once Abundantly Supplied

Laugh lines appear in a smile
Crinkled eyes open and beguile
A life once abundantly supplied
No longer found and occupied
 
Mind stunted by disenchantment
Body crumbling into parchment
Forfeited hopes and dreams
Heart hardened and forever seamed
 
Scent of decay alive in despair
Death envelops fetid air
Lost vitality and spirit dwell
Inside the desolate hollowed shell

Wow, Marguerite, this is darker than your usual, but I really like it.  You've really captured the more unappealing side to aging.  Just the thought of withering away is a bit chilling.  Your poem is also beautifully written and flows right off the tongue.  Wonderful piece.
