They've been around for a while and you have direct contact with the developer. I'm pretty sure they use the FTDI chipset. They have distributors around the world too. I have had very good results them on Windows, OS X, and Linux, in fact I carry one in my bag for whenever I need a serial adapter. Depending on what you're sending the break to, you may be able to get away with setting the baud rate to something really slow (like 50 baud) and sending a single NUL.
