2007 Virago XV250 Idle Speed...

Just wondering if someone can tell me what the proper idle speed rpm should be?  I have an XV250 and I think that its idling way too low - and I noticed that intermittently (when cold etc) it idles ok without stalling, with full choke, takes way longer than it should to get to the point where I can go to no choke, and if I touch the throttle at all (in either neutral or 1st) it stalls.  I tried fuel on prime (the bike was sitting for a couple weeks while I was away) made no difference.  A friend of mine who is a small engine mech, adjusted the idle screw a bit higher and with a handheld serometer (sp) it is now set at 1100 rpm and sounds much better idling, and seems to have fixed the issue with the throttle / stalling.  I cant find the correct idle speed rpm online and its not listed in the owners manual, but I doubt it is supposed to be below 1000 rpm and thats where it was until we adjusted it higher.  I would like to know the correct rpm though if anyone can tell me.... Thanks

Wanda

Sounds about the right speed.

Set the idle when the engine is warm, not cold. If it is having idle problems when cold, choke obviously.
If it seems to be problematic, run some carb cleaner through it and be sure to put stableizer through it before parking for long periods.
