[OT] CS3/CR question

by Jez Cunningham :: Rate this Message:

Reply to Author | View Threaded | Show Only this Message

Hi,
In CS2/Bridge, I had the option to "Open in Camera Raw".  Now in CS3/Bridge
there's only the option "Open in Photoshop" which means PS has to open
- even if I'm just making RAW corrections.
Does anyone know how to avoid this?
thanks
Jez

You're apparently not looking far enough down the file or right click
menu list.  Instead of using "Open with..." look two items farther down
the main menu where you'll see "Open with Camera Raw..."

Also, under Edit -> preferences -> thumbnails (yeah, I know, not exactly
intuitive) you have an option of opening JPEG and TIFF in Camera Raw as
well.  Very nice since it gives you the full set of ACR controls on JPEG
and TIFF.

Thanks Chuck, but...
It seems I'm unable to set the appropriate preference.  Adobe Help he say:

Note: Select Edits Camera Raw Settings in Adobe Bridge General preferences
to open camera raw files in the Camera Raw dialog box in Adobe Bridge. If
this preference isn't selected, camera raw files open in Photoshop.

Apart from the lack of punctuation in this 'help' which makes it difficult
to know what to look for, I don't see any appropriate option in the
'General' Preferences - but I do see some blank grey space where there is
room for more options:-(   Maybe I have another setting wrong elsewhere.
Yes, I checked the jpeg option - thanks.

Wasted a couple of hours on this now, still no progress... :-(

I'll add the appropriate punctuation and clarification.
From Bridge:  Select Edit -> Preferences -> General
then in the "Behavior" box in the middle of the dialog select
"Double-click edits Camera Raw settings in Bridge"

When that box is checked a double click (on a thumbnail image only) will
open the image in Camera Raw.

Alternatively:  Load Bridge.  Select an image (else your options will be
grayed out) and look at the entries in the "file" menu.  The 7th entry
down the menu list should be "Open in Camera Raw...".  Alternatively,
right click on your selected image and the fourth item on the pop-up
menu will also be "Open in Camera Raw".

Hope that helps.

Damnit - In the Pref / General / Behavior box I've got a big gap and then
"Number of recent items to display".

And in the File menu:

New window
New folder
Open
Open with > (PS, Nikon Capture, Paint)
Open recent >
Close window
Delete

And in the right click menu:

Open
Open with >  (same list)
Cut
Copy
Delete
Move to >
Copy to >
Reveal in Explorer
etc

Thanks for the helpful ideas ...
cheers
Jez

Certainly sounds like Bridge doesn't know Camera Raw is installed.  Is
it possible you missed setting an option during install?  I think I'd
re-install (carefully) to see what happens.  If that doesn't fix it
uninstall first and then reinstall.

Today when I clicked on the color picker box in CS2, I noticed that the
upper left corner (which should be white) has gone tan.  What basic
setting controls this ?

John,

Just click on the lower left hand corner of the color picker tool (the
small white and black boxes) and you'll set it back to default.  You
probably used the eyedropper tool to sample a tan color and that is why
the foreground was set to tan.

Or just type "D" to set colors to default (black and white).
You can also type "X" to exchange foreground/background colors.

I can't seen to get CS2 to open ORF files. Camera Raw v. 3.7 is shown as
being installed and is located in the right directory. I get a pop up
box saying that the file is the wrong type of document. What am I doing
wrong?

Using a new camera with an old application.

Not all ORF files are the same. The internal format has changed with
camera models.

The E-410 and 510 are not supported in ACRS 3.7. And ACRS 4.1 doesn't
work with CS2. Catch 22, I'm afraid.

CS2 ORF workaround, was: [OT] a CS2 question

by chucknorcutt :: Rate this Message:

Reply to Author | View Threaded | Show Only this Message

But there is a workaround.  Download the DNG converter here
<http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=3732&fileID=3494>
Convert the ORF files to DNG and then process in ACR 3.7 as usual.

The download link will download both the DNG converter (a standalone
EXE) and the Camera Raw 4.2 plug-in.  Just discard the Camera Raw
plug-in (since you can't use it) and place (not install) the DNG
converter in the folder of your choice.  Then put a short cut to the DNG
converter on your desktop if desired.

The mysterious "Extract" button on the DNG converter panel is to extract
the original raw files from the DNG file if you had previously set
preferences to encapsulate the original raw file into the DNG at the
time of conversion (not the default).

Thank you very much.  I knew it was something simple and yes, I had used
the eyedropper on an old yellowed scan.

Important notice about TOPE 31 (about to be closed) and TOPE 32 (shooting season is open now)

by Olaf Greve-2 :: Rate this Message:

Reply to Author | View Threaded | Show Only this Message

Hi guys,

As you'll surely have noticed, my recent-father-activities have got me WAY
behind on all my hobbies and other spare time activities, and the TOPE
events have been no exception...

But... it seems matters are gradually finding their way into a somewhat more
predictable spare-time-schedule, and I'll do my best to fit the various
hobbies somehow in there too. :P
So, as far as TOPE is concerned I'll also do my best to better my life, and
be more compliant with the timelines again.

As a start: TOPE 31 should long since have been closed, but there are still
a few entries that have been sent to me quite a while ago, and that aren't
yet online. I'll try to add all of those this weekend, and then lift the
anonymity period, and consider TOPE 31 closed in one go.

Also... TOPE 32 should already have opened around September 10th, but I
totally failed to announce that, so by means of this message, I inform you
all that the TOPE 32 shooting season has been opened as of around that date
(in case you had already shot some good pictures), and that it will be open
for an extended period, let' say until around mid-November (to compensate
for the already past +/- 3 weeks).

Note: TOPE 32 is definitely the Walt Wayman tribute one, and the abstract
for the theme is:
"Sadly one of the OM-list's biggest characters and finest photographers
passed away on July 15th, 2007. Those of us who knew Walt knew him well for
his excellent pictures, and for his tongue-in-cheek (often in-your-face)
comments on the OM-list. Those of you who do not know him, can see his work
in no less than 20 of the first 25 TOPE events, making Walt one of the most
consistent contributors, until life overtook him. In order to honour Walt's
memory well, for this theme you can either take pictures of something that
reminds you of Walt (do I hear the "SUV" word? ;) ), and/or simply take
brilliantly executed shots (of a subject of your own choice), with high
levels of detail and spot-on compositions. This is one for Walt guys, let's
make this a theme Walt would be proud of!"

Sooooo, grab your cameras, the TOPE webmaster is back in business, so it's
time to get some nice pictures and make the Walt Wayman tribute yet another
fine event! :)

Cheers!
Olafo

Hello all,

I need to thin my herd a little and some of the lesser used items are ready
to find new homes.

First up I have a basically as new in box SHLD-2 kit with the grip, battery
and charger. I purchased it from Cameta about a year ago and aside from
taking it out of the box to charging the battery I haven't used it (other
