Hi,
As we communicated two week ago (see
http://www.jxta.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=announce&msgNo=295) we are
moving at full steam on the jxta.org site consolidation. We are
currently on schedule to complete the migration by end of June.
We have at this point notified owners of akk the migrating projects
and are working with them to complete the migration of their projects.
WHEN THIS CONSOLIDATION WILL BE COMPLETED ?
We expect the consolidation to be completed by end of June. Our intent
is to perform this consolidation as quickly as can in order to avoid
potential confusion on which site users should use. As we complete
the migration of the jxta.org site, we will redirect all migrated
project URLs foo.jxta.org to their new foo.dev.java.net location under
the existing JXTA java.net community.
We expect to put in place the site redirect (jxta.org ->
jxta.dev.java.net) and all project redirects by June 20th. The old
jxta.org site will be backed up completely and after we have verified
that all projects redirects are functioning, the old jxta.org site will
be deactivated.
CURRENT STATUS:
Our decision to migrate a project was based on current and past project
activities, project owner recommendations, as well as relevance of the
code present. We have completed the migration of many projects (see
project list and status included). We are currently working with
project owners to migrate projects from the list. Please, review
carefully the provided migrated list, and let us know as soon as
possible and no later than June 20th, if you are depending on any
projects that is not in that list.
AS A PROJECT COMMITTER, OBSERVER or USER, WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
For the new consolidated projects that have completed their migration to
java.net you will need to subscribe to the project, apply for a project
role, and subscribe to the project mailing-lists. Unfortunately due to
legal reasons we cannot move your individual project subscriptions from
one site to the others. The click-through licenses and contributor
agreements are different and therefore not transferable. This is also
giving us the opportunity to clean up project membership and will
provide a better accounting of active users. So, it is important that
you subscribe to the projects you are interested in.
Many projects that have been migrated are looking for new project
owners. Feel free to request project ownership if you are interested
to lead and contribute to any Jxta project on java.net.
We appreciate your help and support during this consolidation process.
The Sun JXTA Engineering Team
