there should be a way to generate portable artifacts (or wsdl) directly from the
interface of service without specifying the implementation.

The use case is pretty straight foward: I want to release a library with all the
portable artifact that will be used by both the client and the server (where the
implementation will be defined). There must be a way to do this.

FYI, we're having the same issue, and considering a switch to CXF as it allows generation from an interface
rather than a concrete class. Part of this is a workflow issue where we are interface driven using wsgen,
but don't want to specify an implementation just yet (just a Java contract and generate a WSDL)
