Hi Tomas,

I'd like to ask you about your opinion on UTF-8 support in Squirrelmail.

Although I saw utf-8 only SM 1.4.8, there doesn't seem to be one for the
latest stable branch, and the Slovak translation is still using ISO-8859-2.

This causes us serious problems, since people here are sending mails in
ISO-8859-2, Windows-1250 and UTF-8, while SM only supports ISO-8859-2
at present. Also, after the EU accession, there's much more communication
between EU countries and more than 10 (!) different encodings are used
in this context.

I'm fully convinced that UTF-8 is the only solution to this mess.
Yes, I'm aware about the possibility to convert the Slovak translation into
UTF-8 myself, however this is not a general solution and requires unnecessary
work from all SM administrators at different sites.

Could you therefore please comment what's the direction for UTF-8 in SM?
If there's no short-term progress on complete SM switch into UTF-8, I'd like
to propose converting at least the Slovak translation into UTF-8, just
like it's the case with Lithuanian one.

        Thanks & kind regards,

Hi Marian.

The Slovak translation is converted to UTF-8 and the first translation
after the conversion will be released in the SquirrelMail 1.4.15 language
pack. You can see statistics for HEAD (1.4.15 isn't branched yet) at
<http://l10n-stats.squirrelmail.org/HEAD/sk_SK/index.php>.

Sincerely,
Fredrik
