[Fwd: Language bindings on gtk.org]-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Language bindings on gtk.org Date: Mon, 07 Apr 2008 16:24:27 +0200 From: Andreas Nilsson <andreas@...> To: Gtk+ Developers <gtk-devel-list@...> Hi all! I've done some changes to the bindings page on gtk.org. [1] * Removed all the language bindings that were <2.6 * Added a GNOME Binding column This means a lot of (outdated) bindings are no longer present on the page. If you happen to be a maintainer of any of the following projects that got removed, even though your bindings are indeed up to date, please tell me as soon as possible and I'll add them back. * Xfce Foundation Classes (http://xfc.xfce.org/) * VDK (http://vdkbuilder.sourceforge.net/) * wxWidgets/Gtk (http://www.wxwidgets.org/) * CL-GTK ( http://tenkan.org/clgtk/) * DUI (http://dui.sourceforge.net/) * eGTK (http://www.netlabs.net/hp/richieb/gtk_eiffel.html) * EiffelVision, GEL (http://www.eiffel.com/products/vision/page.html) * erlgtk (http://erlgtk.sourceforge.net) * eugtk (http://sourceforge.net/projects/eugtk/) * felix (http://felix.sf.net) * pilib (http://sourceforge.net/projects/pilib) * Gauche-gtk (http://www.shiro.dreamhost.com/scheme/gauche/packages.html) * guile-gtk (http://www.gnu.org/software/guile-gtk) * Gtk2Hs (http://haskell.org/gtk2hs/) * JSGtk (http://its.gsu.edu/jsg/js/JSGtk/) * lua-gtk (http://luaforge.net/projects/lua-gtk) * lablGTK (http://wwwfun.kurims.kyoto-u.ac.jp/soft/olabl/lablgtk.html) * Octave GTK (https://sourceforge.net/projects/octave-gtk/) * GTK+ for Free Pascal (http://www.freepascal.org/packages/gtk.html) * Pike (http://pike.ida.liu.se/) * PHP-GTK (http://gtk.php.net) * Bigloo, gtk+ (http://bigloo-lib.sourceforge.net/) * SLgtk (http://space.mit.edu/~mnoble/slgtk) * Smalltalk (ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/smalltalk/) * tcl-gtk (http://tcl-gtk.sourceforge.net) * gnocl (http://www.dr-baum.net/gnocl/) * TOM/gtk (http://gerbil.org/tom/) * xbgtk (http://xbgtk.sourceforge.net/) 1. http://gtk.org/language-bindings.html - Andreas _______________________________________________ gtk-devel-list mailing list gtk-devel-list@... http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gtk-devel-list _______________________________________________ language-bindings mailing list language-bindings@... http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/language-bindings |

Most of those "outdated" bindings should still be usable with the latest GTK+ thanks to API compatibility, no ? > This means a lot of (outdated) bindings are no longer present on the > page. It supports GTK+ up to 2.10. Language: OCaml Project: LablGTK URL: http://wwwfun.kurims.kyoto-u.ac.jp/soft/olabl/lablgtk.html Thanks -- Olivier _______________________________________________ language-bindings mailing list language-bindings@... http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/language-bindings |

Re: [Fwd: Language bindings on gtk.org]This seems way to aggressive. For example, some of these are very actively developed and well known in the free software community; wxWidgets has a very high profile but is considered "outdated" here?

clearly active ; XFce is a popular alternative to GNOME! How can anyone not know that?
clearly active
active;
still usable with gtk+
part of the standard release of Free Pascal...
gtk+ bindings part of the standard distribution of Pike!
part of the standard distribution of the language!

The gst bindings aren't outdated AFAIK. -Rob -- GPG key available at: <http://www.robertcollins.net/keys.txt>. _______________________________________________ language-bindings mailing list language-bindings@... http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/language-bindings |

I'm one of the maintainers. I do realise we'd not added much support for new features in Gtk+ 2.8 and above but it does build and work against those versions. It is in fairly widespread use in the Haskell community and we ship the windows installer along with Gtk+ 2.10.x. We are planning to add more of the newer apis but we are taking some time to switch our binding autogeneration system from using the Gtk# scripts to use the new .def files that pygtk and other bindings now use. Once we've got that done, generating the bindings for the new apis should be straightforward. So basically I don't think we're sufficiently up to date with releases, use and maintenance to justify remaining listed.
