Hello,

I'm glad to announce availability of HaRET 0.3.8.

      http://handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/HaRET

HaRET is a Linux bootloader which works from WindowsCE
(PocketPC, Windows Mobile) environment (just like the old-times
"loadlin" tool used to boot Linux from MS DOS).

In other words, it is a tool you use if you want to run (or at
least, boot) Linux on your WinCE handheld, but don't want to perform
complex and risky Flash ROM reprogramming.

At the same time, HaRET is handheld low-level
environment/hardware analyzing tool, very useful to port Linux to a new
handheld, or to elaborate existing port. HaRET itself support many
devices models and aims to work on all devices.

0.3.8 is the first release made by the new team, to which
original author, Andrew Zabolotny, handed HaRET maintenance. One of
the aim of this release is to provide recent, official download,
known to work at least on the most well-developed ports. of course,
it also contains fixes and improvements since last widely available
HaRET release, 0.3.6:

* Better (though still not perfect) support for PXA27x CPU.
* Support for VGA devices.
* Support for big kernels (up to 5Mb of uncompressed size, zImage
sizes up to at least 1.5Mb are ok).

     Please follow to this message:
http://handhelds.org/hypermail/haret/2/0256.html , it you are
interested in future plans for HaRET.

We try to collect device and WinCE support data for HaRET.
Success/failure reports for you devices will be appreciated (if you
have a failure, make sure you read the FAQ on the HaRET homepage by
the link above). Please make sure you include the exact WinCE version
and build numbers, as found at Start menu -> Settings -> System -> About.
(Yes, please use number from that applet; data from vendor-specific
"asset" applets or knowing that it was ROM upgrade X.XX may be useful
extra, but those numbers are base we need to collate different reports
into cross-device matrix).

Please send reports, questions, suggestions to HaRET mailing
list, haret at handhelds dot org (this message is cc: there).
