well, two problems with that.  First, I don't actually have task-kde3
installed.  I suppose I can install it and then do the above, but that
leads to the second problem... there appears to be packages listed as
orphans that probably shouldn't be, such as google-gadgets-xul and
google-gadgets-gtk.  I would think that if google-gadgets-common is
installed, the other pieces should be non-orphaned... which makes me not
trust the rest of the list of orphans I already have before trying to
remove kde3.

just wait a little we are currently removing kde3 so soon when you will update
your cooker this will remove kde3 automagically
