       RPM Package: kdepim4-4.1.0-1mdv2009.0.src.rpm
Summary: [KDE4] Kmail from KDE4 should import kde3 kmail settings
                    ( and emails )
           Product: Mandriva Linux
           Version: Cooker
          Platform: i586
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: normal
         Component: Core Packages
        AssignedTo: kde@...
        ReportedBy: f.faber-pro@...
         QAContact: bugs@...

Description of problem:
Now that kde 4.1 is going to be used as default desktop, I think that previous
kde 3 applications users settings should be imported in the KDE 4 application.
Users are not expecting to have to reconfigure all of their application and
eventually lose their mail history.

So IMHO, kmail at first start should check if there are some settings in
~/.kde3, and if it's the first time kde4 kmail is launched, it should import
the settings from ~/.kde3. This way the user will have a directly working email
client. This is important for example when doing migration in an enterprise, or
else the sysadmin will have to reconfigure all the workstations.

It's seems that someone is working on some migration script. This could be a
beginning for the implementation under Mandriva :
http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/KDE3TO4?content=86302

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kdepim4-4.1.0-1mdv2009.0

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use kde3 from 2008.x
2. Migrate to 2009.0 and install kde4
3. All applications settings are reset.

Why did you mark the other bug as duplicate ? In this case I should change the

So IMHO, kmail at first start should check if there are some settings in ~/.kde3, and if it's the first time kde4 kmail is launched, it should import the settings from ~/.kde3. This way the user will have a directly working email client. This is important for example when doing migration in an enterprise, or else the sysadmin will have to reconfigure all the workstations.

It's seems that someone is working on some migration script. This could be a beginning for the implementation under Mandriva : http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/KDE3TO4?content=86302

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kdepim4-4.1.0-1mdv2009.0

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use kde3 from 2008.x
2. Migrate to 2009.0 and install kde4
3. All applications settings are reset.

------ Original Bug Text: ------

Description of problem:
Now that kde 4.1 is going to be used as default desktop, I think that previous kde 3 applications users settings should be imported in the KDE 4 application. Users are not expecting to have to reconfigure all of their application and eventually lose their mail history.

So IMHO, kmail at first start should check if there are some settings in ~/.kde3, and if it's the first time kde4 kmail is launched, it should import the settings from ~/.kde3.
