[ANN] New York Regional 4D Users Group Meeting, Wed, 9/19/07, 7:30 PMNew York City Regional 4D Developers Group - Sept 2007
Date: Wednesday, Sept 19_Hours: 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM Location: Saint Peter's Church at The Citicorp Center (see below for complete directions) Contact Gary Brocks: gbrocks@... Topics: 1: Using Adobe Flex as a front-end to 4D 2: SQL Pocket Guide: Concise Database Programming 3: Find Memphis: Preview of 4D Summit 2007 Adobe Flex and 4D: Jay Harper will present a small Flex interface that was done for netterimages.com which loads two xml files to present pricing information to customers. If the customer wants to add the item to their cart, a web services call is made to 4D, avoiding the need to present a separate page to the user. Flex is an Adobe product which creates data driven interfaces that can be displayed using a Flash 9 web browser plug-in. Because it is deployed using Flash, it operates in a more stable environment than most AJAX applications which rely on browser-specific implementations of Javascript. However, Flex can interact with the browser via Javascript, and the demo will show this in action with the Flex object resizing itself using Javascript calls to the browser. About Jay Harper: _Jay Harper has been working with 4D since 1991, and has been focusing on 4D-driven web solutions since 1997. Most recently he has focused on optimizing public web sites for organic search - especially data driven web sites. Jay and his partner, Dan Wong, run Slicksurface (slicksurface.com) - a graphic design and programming company located in New York. SQL Pocket Guide: Mehboob Alam will demonstrate simplifying a multi statement 4D task in to a single SQL Statement (or alternatively, deconstruct a single- line SQL statement into the 4D language) The goal of this teaser is to demonstrate the power of SQL statements and why you should consider v11 as a solid migration path for your application. Preview of 4D Summit 2007: Get onboard for the Summit. This is an open discussion on topics that will be presented at the 4D 2007 Summit held in Memphis, TN. This session is targeted for those who can not attend the Summit this year as well as those who plan to attend. It is our goal to arm some NYC volunteers with questions and topics of interest for those who can not attend. For those attending the summit; we plan to evaluate each presentation at the summit as it would pertain to 4D v11. NOTE: While some discussions may encompass overlapping topics (such as SQL) and v11, at this point we will not discuss v11 in technical terms to honor and comply with 4D's confidentiality agreements. The evening's proposed schedule is as follows*: 7:30 Meet and Greet 7:40 Topic Presentations 8:35 QA, open discussion, participant presentations, future meeting planning. 9:30 Meeting ends, adjourn to a local establishment for talk, food and drink. * times other than the start time and end time of the meeting are flexible, depending on the presenters and participants preferences.
