I found this tutorial (
http://www.netbeans.org/kb/61/ide/mysql.html) is very helpful & informative.
The steps are divided into 6 parts and are clearly written.
Some good points about the tutorial:
1. Explaining most of the basic operations that developers will use.
2. It also explains the different way (feature) available.
Example of this would be the the use of SQL editor and Create Table Dialog for creating new table.
What lack from this tutorial is it does not mention about the View Data that can be used for deleting or adding new record (the tabular in the lower region part).
I think this should be mentioned also as it is a very handy feature.
Another suggestion would be to put some explaination about the use of Design Query.
As for the compability aspect, I have used this tutorial smoothly using NB 6.5M1 and Netbeans for PHP Build 20080723011024.
So, this tutorial works with NB 6.5.
