Please upgrade to version 3.0.1 for Ubuntu, package is available on our website. First make sure you export your data to a .gramps xml file, which is the most portable. From the error I would assume you deleted data manually from your disk which you should not have done? Anyway, the check and repair tool crashes when there is one family name with only one person attached that must be removed because of lack of data. You can avoid the error by deleting this person manually (normally a person with family name = empty ), then running the check tool again.
